IDELIX Software Inc. Announces PliablePaperA New Medium for an Old Format, Online & Interactive
Vancouver, B.C. - March 20, 2001 - IDELIX Software Inc. (formerly Advanced Numerical Methods Ltd.) today introduced PliablePaper, a software solution that enables the publishing industry to distribute digital newspapers and magazines in a style identical to traditional print formats via the Internet. IDELIX will present PliablePaper in the Adobe Partner Pavilion (No. 2105) at the Seybold Seminars Conference in Boston from April 10th to April 12th.
While over 50% of the 3072 daily newspapers in major global markets provide news over the Internet, these services currently account for less than 1% of their total revenues.
PliablePaper presents an "in-context" view of the newspaper's content by providing visible detail within a pre-placed dynamic lens. With PliablePaper, the reader views the same content and layout on their computer monitor as the newsprint version in their hands. One mouse click will activate the encapsulating lens showing the article of interest in the full-format newspaper on screen. The reader is able to navigate and view the article easily, without losing the surrounding context offered by a familiar newspaper page format. Unlike existing Internet behaviors and technologies, the key advantage of PliablePaper is that the subscriber sees the newspaper in its familiar print layout. PliablePaper is easy to use because it invokes two existing user skills the almost innate sense of how one reads a newspaper, and the ability to use a mouse.
Stuart Bourhill, President & COO, explains, "IDELIX Software and PliablePaper unlock value for the ePublishing world and existing online media models and technologies. PliablePaper is the electronic media industry's opportunity to get to readers every morning at the crack of dawn online or in their email-box. Newspaper publishers and subscribers are seeking access to news and more convenient distribution channels. We are excited about working with other technology and publishing companies to enact these changes."
IDELIX's PliablePaper enables delivery of existing print media assets and traditional print advertising revenue models via the Internet. PliablePaper provides publishers with the means to electronically distribute their media in a familiar newsprint-style format to global subscribers via the Internet, leaving advertisement layout and the look and feel of the publication intact. PliablePaper opens the door for additional Web advertising sales opportunities by enabling links within advertisements to advertiser's websites and other related information. In addition to enhanced online advertising sales opportunities, the ability to reach global subscribers also lends the way to an increased subscription and circulation base resulting in increased revenue and subscriber loyalty.
