Pliable Display Technology (PDT) by IDELIX

PDT is a technology that advances the way people view and interact with high density, complex combinations of imagery, mapping, and textual data. PDT has been designed to be integrated into a variety of applications. Once integrated, the PDT lens acts as a direct user interface to the data being displayed. PDT lenses can provide a unique combination of precision, speed and improved situational awareness to users that are performing visually-intensive tasks such as:

How PDT Works

PDT is a 3D geometry engine that utilizes detail-in-context viewing techniques to address growing concerns over information overload and screen size limitations. PDT lenses result in the local magnification of a subset of data while keeping a continuous visual connection to the rest of the unmagnified data. This spatial transformation is reversible, permitting functions such as mensuration and mark-up to be performed through the PDT lens with point-to-point accuracy, improving the usability of host application tools.

A PDT lens also acts as a visual metaphor for displaying data that has been gathered from various disparate sources. Data layers can be 'fused' or blended independently in the lensed region to provide a more precise understanding of data relationships. PDT lenses can be used to 'de-clutter' a visual scene by displaying different content in the lens focal region as compared to the contextual region.

PDT has been optimized for integration within a variety of PC, workstation, and handheld/wireless platforms, and can be utilized to help facilitate bandwidth optmization. End-users can transmit and decompress higher resolution data for only the region of interest identified within the lens.

PDT Software Development Kits

The Java and C++ PDT Software Development Kits are available to application vendors and systems integrators for prototyping and product integration. Developers have the ability to choose from a variety of PDT functionality to build the ideal solution to meet the needs of their customers, regardless of the data source, the platform, or the device being used. The following platforms are currently supported:

  • Java
  • Microsoft Windows and WinCE (Pocket PC)
  • GNU/Linux
  • IRIX
  • Mac OS X
  • Solaris
  • COM and .NET
  • Other ports are available upon request
