Pliable Display Technology (PDT)
Web Map Client

Context

An ever-increasing area of concern for the GIS and Remote Sensing community is effective and efficient access to geospatial data across the Internet. This is especially true now that the server-side capabilities and data sharing infrastructures of organizations like GeoConnections have become a reality. It was clear to GeoConnections and IDELIX that the geospatial community could benefit from Pliable Display Technology (PDT) to gain better access to, and make better use of, their existing data infrastructure. PDT improves on existing viewing technologies such as zoom and pan by allowing the user to efficiently navigate and explore a region of interest, while still maintaining a contextual view of the surrounding image. The PDT Web Map Client is a powerful tool for demonstrating to geomatics professionals and the general public the ability to access, navigate and explore geospatial information provided by the GeoConnections web map servers which implement the OpenGIS® WMS specification.

The development of the PDT Web Map Client has moved IDELIX a large step forward in their ability to plan for, and react to, the needs of customers within the GIS and Remote Sensing community. IDELIX plans to continue its research and development into areas such as usability, performance, and 3D capabilities. while continuing to work with other OEM’s and Software Vendors of the GIS and Remote Sensing community to provide PDT enhanced capabilities to their custom applications.
